ELSAN Elektrik San. ve Tic. A.Ş., one of Turkey's first electric motor manufacturers, was established in Ankara in 1964 on a total area of 24,000 m2. Through investments made over time, ELSAN is now able to produce, on a programmed basis, 12 types of electric motors and alternators with special applications in various sectors, along with IEC standard motors up to 400 kW with different pole numbers and voltage values.

In addition to these productions, thanks to its design and flexible production infrastructure, ELSAN can also design and manufacture high value-added custom engines that meet the demands of its customers.

ELSAN's work on traction motors used in tram and metro systems began in 2014. Through successfully completed R&D projects to date, the company has gained design and production capabilities and experience in this field. While significantly contributing to Turkey's export position in standard electric motors, ELSAN has also proven that traction motors, considered a critical technology used in rail systems, can be produced domestically. These studies in the field of traction motors aim to prevent Turkey from relying on imports to meet its needs in this area. This acquired capability will also significantly contribute to meeting the minimum 51% domestic content requirement for rail systems.
