The foundations of Kardemir, Turkey's first integrated iron and steel factory, were laid on April 3, 1937, by the then Prime Minister İsmet İnönü, as part of the national industrialization initiatives of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic. We fired up our first blast furnace on September 9, 1939, and produced the first Turkish iron the following day, September 10, 1939.
We spearheaded our country's industrial advancements, undertaking the design, manufacturing, and assembly of numerous large industrial facilities. For this reason, we became known and referred to in Turkey as "the factory that builds factories."
